Hi Ray. I agree that the "R" tire contingent would not be very
welcoming of the handicap idea, although it is certainly better than the
2 second deal. I think you would want to seperate them. As to what
makes the most sense, I'm not sure I have any original ideas to offer,
but I have a question regarding your assumptions.
Please be carefull to note that I am not trashing any of your ideas or
you as a driver, I think I understand where you want to go with this,
and for you and your local region it could be a great thing. We have
kind of the oppposite situation were the HS cars always seem to be
beating up on the SS guys. My question is how does the driver factor
into this? (Please check the first line in the paragraph again.) Your
assumption that the HS driver can only turn a 59.25, while the SS driver
will do a 55.
I understand you were demonstrating that the index has been "creeping"
in the favor of the SS cars. This is because, as you well know, the
index is based on National results that are more fluid than local
results in terms of what cars are being run at the top. National
results will always find the latest, hottest set up running at the
front, while the local region may tend to have the same cars returning
year after year, thus staying fairly static in an ever changing world.
Is this right? We have a DSP crowd running with MAC that has returned
almost unchanged for at least four years that I am aware of, and every
year those guys are just amazingly competitive with each other. This is
a great example of a local class kind of having an index of thier own,
and it is great. Lots-o-fun to watch them, and I wouldn't want to mess
with it for anything.
If the times and the resulting finishing positions are fairly consistent
in your area, and you don't want to use the calculated factors that were
based on drivers and results that have nothing to do with you guys, why
don't you come up with a local index? Base it on the previous years
results. If close competition for littel investment is your aim, this
may be worth looking into.
