A couple of years ago I was planning on spending the whole week at
Nationals. Super Solo on Friday, and didn't run again until Thu/Fri. I
posted to team.net that I'd work Tue/Wed slots for folks for a paltry
(but unstated) sum. There was a lot of talk on the net at that time
about "who is watching the kids while I work..", etc. Besides that, I
happen to like being on course and watching, close up. May as well make
a buck and let someone else off the hook who doesn't share my pleasure,
huh?
I got a grand total of ONE inquiry, to which I responded, and that was
the end of that. I ended up volunteering for something like 5 run
groups over those two days, plus my own on Thu/Fri. Got a nice tan.
Pro Cone Chasers is much ado about nothing. Face it: we're a cheap
bunch of folks. If we can save $10 and work it ourselves, we will,
regardless of the comments on team.net. ;-)
