Grind off what's left of your tires. Come to Endurokhana in Salina this
Sunday (10-29)

It's The Fourth Occasional Endurokhana by Salina Region SCCA. Six minutes of
seat time. Two runs of three minutes each.

The concept of this event is somewhat different from Wichita's recent
Endurocross. It is taken from methodology of the great endurance races (my
first was "Un Petit Le Mans" in 1971 done in connection with the Steve
McQueen movie). That concept is a timed event and you race to get in as many
laps as you can. the course is a short, easy run of about 20 seconds or so.
You go for about three minutes. Top runners may get in 10 laps.

When time expires, you run to the finish. Times are stated as Laps + Seconds
over 3 minutes. As in: 10+03.455, or 10+14.213, or 9+05.987.

Everyone doing 10 laps beats anyone doing 9. The 10+03.455 beats 10+14.213.

Pylons count the usual two seconds. An uncorrected off-course is DNF for
that lap (you lose only the one lap). The checker comes out at or after 3
minutes. If there is any doubt in the driver's mind he should take another
lap. The clock will not lie, but we will instruct the flagman not to be
anticipatory. I'd rather you drove an extra lap you didn't need, than you
stopped when you had another lap coming. Hit the line at 2:59.999 and you
get another lap. Hit the line at 3:00.000 and you are done.

The course is roughly in the shape of the state of Idaho. You start from
about Logan, Utah. Finish line is midway between Pocatello and Boise.
There's a little squiggle around Moscow, and a fairly tight turnaround at
Coeur d'Alene, then a slalom down the Bitterroot, then around Pocatello and
off to another lap. There's only 85 pylons on the course and two dozen of
them define the start and exit lanes. Most of the rest are the <wide!>
Pocatello and Boise turns.

Entry fee is the usual $15.

East Crawford Recreation Area -- "the best concrete in Kansas"

Five-car heats -- drivers will work TWO heats each (so we have enough
workers - need about 8 per heat). First heat does NOT get an extra run.

Setup will begin about 9 am (NINE a.m. -- am hour later than usual -- it'll
take about 10 minutes to throw pylons in the already-marked boxes),
Registration open about 10, FCO 11ish.

And remember, this is the Sunday when DST ends. Fall back. So because setup
is an hour later you get TWO extra hours of sleep before you have to get up
for this event. Everyone should be well rested! :-)

Sundayyyyyyy! Be therrrrrrrrre!
