Dennis, you of all people should be wary of the "it
can't work" mentality.  SM faces that exact same
attitude: "sure SM is successsful now but wait until
the big-$$$ engineering efforts get involved."

STS is a hugely popular class, especially at the local
level.   There's enough collective wisdom within the
class and in SCCA to deal with the problem of
soft-compound street tires.  There's an answer
somewhere - an exclusion list, an inclusion list,
testing, a production or distribution requirement,
whatever.   The anti-ST doomsayers have been crying
"the sky is falling" since before the class was formed
and it has done quite well since then.
