I'm not too wild about a feature at the start.  Part of the reason is that
it encourages precision at the start.  If you start in a straight, then you
get in the general vicinity, and go.  If you start in a turn, then you need
to setup for the turn at the line.

Better yet, make the start lane straight but put a sharp turn right _after_
the start lights.  I mean like within 30 feet of them.  Then all the speed
in the world leading up to the lights simply means that you really have to
stomp on the brakes before that turn, and could easily blow the course right
from the git-go.
