Can't help but recall going into a tire shop and seeing the sign on the
wall: "Not responsible for damage to aluminum wheels."

I asked about that as they were about to put new tires on mine.

Not to worry, they said. Race wheels, meant to take such stress, were not
the problem. It was those danged appearance wheels that were pretty and all,
but thin metal and good for not much more than cruising main street.
Sometimes on the tire mounting machine, they would just snap pieces off of
them.
