I guess that the one on the BMW bolts directly to a reinforced point
along the centerline of the car.  The Miata hitches use a crossbar
that bolts to the tie-down mounts.

I wonder if you could drill that crossbar without reducing it's
strength...

"Trailer racing"?  Is that anything like the camper-trailer races
featured in the November issue of _Grassroots Motorsports_?
