Hi All,

I just wanted to do a rundown on what to expect at tech inspection this
weekend.

First, the basics:

Tech inspection will be open Friday 5-8 p.m., and Saturday 7-8 am. If other
arrangements are required, please let me know.

Below are the highlights of the inspection. Should just take a few minutes
and be relatively painless... :-)

Lug nuts/thread engagement: Cars are required to have at least 6 turns of
engagement (5 on light cars is acceptable.) if it not obvious to the
inspector, please be prepared to remove a lug nut. Cars running factory
wheels without spacers will be exempt from this. Lug bolt cars (VW, Audi,
etc.) will be required to remove one lug bolt for verification. Please do
not push this rule - we had at least three cars last year with between 2 and
3 turns. If in doubt, verify before you leave - there are auto parts stores
near the site, but why cause yourself the stress?

Helmet: Must be Snell 90 (either SA or M) rated or higher. The Snell
rating must be on the official sewn-in or glued in sticker. Normal
locations are under the lining (on the foam) or sewn to the chin strap. Any
other rating will not be honored. Any helmet not meeting the rating
requirements will be held by the Chief of Technical Inspection until after
the last run on Sunday. All helmets will receive a sticker upon approval.

Tires: Inspected for cord and/or damage. For Stock and Street Prepared
vehicles, the tread depth measurements will be enforced.

Battery: Inspected to ensure that the battery is securely fastened to the
vehicle. Bungee cords are not an acceptable means of attachment.

Wheel bearings: Wheel bearings will be inspected on all vehicles - be
prepared to jack up the car if requested (a jack is available, but any
special requirements need to be provided by the competitor.)

Seat belt: Checked for rips/tears. Aftermarket belts check for secure
attachment.

Throttle return springs: Checked for positive return - factory springs are
fine, but redundant ones are required for prepared, mod, and street prepared
with aftermarket induction systems.

Leaks: General checking for oil/coolant leaks will be done.

Trunks/hatches: Your trunk/hatch needs to be emptied before you compete.
While the inspector will not require you to remove everything for the
inspection, please heed their warning. In particular, we will look for
speaker boxes, amps, loose spare tires, and the like. These _must_ be
removed before competition. Random checks on grid may occur, so make sure
you've checked your trunk or hatch.

Car identification: In order to assist timing and scoring, numbers and
class designation will be inspected. Those with missing identification or
those with low contrasting numbers/class letters will not pass inspection.

SCCA Solo II stickers: Cars will be checked for having the Solo II
stickers. Note that only the current design is allowed. If the stickers
are not available at registration, this rule will not be enforced.

Cars will receive a tech sticker upon completion of the inspection and will
be placed on the left side of the windshield by the inspector.

Thanks for your co-operation!

Kevin McCormick
Chief of Technical Inspection
