Well as you asked ;)
If you remember, many years ago, I created
http://groups.google.com/group/bmcu/ to reserve the name. it is free,
it allows multiple admins, provides a calendar and a host of other
features. Mail can be sent individually or grouped or not at all (you
can just view online). Best of all though, almost no maintenance. If
we want to use it I can add admin (or even ownership) to whomever
should have it.
Google groups has worked extremely well with the local Porsche Club
for the last 5 years and now serves about 250 members. Theirs is
configured for public access http://groups.google.com/group/irpca/ as
you can see, but the lists can be set as private also.
