Yes there is a story behind this. When the car was being built, there was
supposed to be a contract set up for a donut type spare tire. Unfortunately
the contract fell through and none were delivered. Which is just as well
since the designers of the car forgot to design in a space to put the spare
tire. Terry Tanner can tell you more about that story if you want. You can
