I spoke with Terry today about the problem you are having with the
backfiring. He remembers putting the engine in your car. According to him
its a 401 not a 390. This information may help you I hope. He also said
that it is probably a leaning of the car and to check the accelerator pump.
If you are using a Holly carb, he recommends going to a 50cc pump.
