In other words, the pressure in the lines may AVERAGE 100-120 psi, but the
individual bumps from the compressor might go significantly higher than that.

I don't know if an individual pulse could exceed the average, but if someone
is real paranoid about the compressor exceeding some pre-determined level they
could buy another regulator to put at the output of the compressor. Better yet,
both ends (compressor and paint gun(tool) end) should have a regulator and
water filter to be sure all the moisture is out of the line. Naturally you would
want the compressor end to be set higher than you need to account for pressure
drop. I've found when sandblasting in humid weather that you can't get enough
moisture separation with just one filter. You get a large temp drop (and con-
densation) at the first filter. The second one gets the last of the moisture.
You'd be surprised how often you "bleed" the first filter in humid weather.
