On the subject of GT40s...at the recent Vintage Fall Festival at
Road America, I was talking with a fellow racer (Bob, an older
gentleman)...he had a special one off pre-war boat tail MG...anyway,
he and I were talking about this other acquaintance with a
beautifully restored yellow GT40 and Bob happened to mention that he
had owned a GT40 as a street driven fun car in the late 60s. He
said it was a lot of fun and still remembers going to pick up pizzas
in the car with his young son in the passenger seat. He mentioned
that he made a "killing" on selling the car...he bought it for
$8,000 and sold it for $11,000...
Re: Select sales. I have dealt with them, I purchased my tilton
adjustable proportioning valve and had no real problems. They seem
pretty straight, but I do not know the suitability of the
Superlites(r) for performance applications. The Panasports I know
are quite strong as are real Minilites.
Crankshaft nuts. Next time heat the nut with a propane torch before
trying to remove it. The heating and cooling of the nut will help
it loosen slightly and avoid broken sockets and other associated
annoyances. BTW, a 3/4 inch socket set is invaluable in working with LBCs...
besides braking loose crankshaft nuts, they are necessary in rebuilding
transmissions and the sockets make great bearing race drivers...You probably
can buy an entire chinese made set, incl breaker bar for $50 from Harbor
Freight or about twice that from Craftsman on sale. Buying
individual pieces is much more expensive.
