Hi Robb,
Yeah, those extra wires threw me for a loop when I found them connected to my
'70 4-spd trans. With my '70 1600, there are two sets of wires. One is for the
standard reverse position switch to activate the reverse light. The other set is
(I believe) for sensing the neutral shift position, as part of the smog-control
stuff to reduce emissions while the car is sitting at idle. It could be that you
have an earlier year trans in your '70 that doesn't have the neutral switch
connection.
