I had the distributor out of my engine today and noticed that the geared shaft that drives both the oil pump and distributor seemed a bit odd. The slot at the top of the shaft that drives the distributor is ground off center. Now, I also noted that the distributor drive is pinned to the distributor shaft to allow it pivot to make up for a slight misalignment. Does anyone know why the shaft is cut off center?
