This may be a very unpopular point of veiw, but oh well...

Why bother with a national meet? I mean what is the purpose?

will Nissan suddenly recognize us and start making parts again?

Is the goal to see for ourselves how many datsuns can be collected at
one central location?

Is this a thread that keeps us amused?

Will TV cameras be there to cover the event for the 11 o'clock news?

WHAT REALLY IS THE PURPOSE?

I think the events we have are fine, they just need to be better
organised and promoted. not just to us, but the public the press, hell
maybe even charge spectator fees.

Joe Blow and Mrs. Blow are sitting at home in Santa Barbara and she
says " gee honey what are we going to do this weekend" He, reading the
Weekly says " hey honey, lets drive to solvang, they are having a
classic datsun show this weekend, then we can do some wine tasting
afterwards"

My point is; If we want to get exposure we have to promote. ouside of
our small group.

Myself, I can say without a doubt, no way am I hopping into my roadster
and driving all the way to kansas for a show. I am sure plenty others
feel the same.

The british marquees, I'm sure, will not hop in their MGAs with lucas
electrics and drive halfway across the country for a show, yet they
have more recognition.

Overall, what I am saying is that bettering and promoting what we
already have is a better way to go.

A case in point; this year at surfside, the best roadster was
unrestored, had a bent front bumper, and a non detailed engine bay.
What it did have, was a new paint job, new interior, and panasports.
Do not get me wrong, it was a nice roadster, but not representative of
what roadsters are out there.

It won by default... the other cars didn't show up!

Improving what we have, bettering our clubs, bettering our cars, making
friends with other clubs, better organization is the answer.... Not
driving half way across the country.

If it is parts we want, an organised letter writng campaign by ALL
datsun owners to Nissan would probably do more good.
