After 35 yrs of messin' with old cars., I've learned not to just work on
cars, but to fix them.
On a 30+ yr old car, if you fill an unrestored ( not newly resealed)
steering box with oil, it will leak out all over the frame etc. now this
will help keep your car from rusting, but it will ruin A-arm bushings
(rubber) etc.
Old American cars use grease in the steering boxes. Grease is now what I put
in all old cars with steering boxes, it doesn't leak out all over the place
and go then go dry, and does a great job of lubing the box
permanently-...fixed!
