When I primed my pump I went to a used tool supply house and purchased a large
flat blade screwdriver with a round shaft. The width of the blade was almost as
wide as the slot in the oil pump, and the tip was almost as thick as the slot is
wide. I cut the handle off and ground the wide part of the blade down to the
diameter of the shaft, which filled most of the chuck in my 1/2" drill. By the
time I was done grinding the width of the blade was just under the diameter of
the access hole in the block.
While I was grinding things down I made sure I rounded all of the edges so the
narrow sides of the screwdriver blade were nearly one radius from one flat side
to the other so would be no possibility of snagging a sharp edge on the block.
It ran very smooth in the block hole without wobbling or trying to jump out of
the oil pump.
