Joel Wilmsmeyer, the guy who got me into Roadsters 30 years ago when I helped
him restore a wrecked '67 Solex Two-liter, offers the advice below for fixing
leaks. Joel's response was to a post I sent to my club UROC, Utah Roadster
Owners Club, complaining about my leaking shift boot.
The trick to fixing leaking seals, if they have just gotten hard with
age, is
to add a few drops of a different type of lubricant/ fluid.
A capfull of brake fluid added to engine oil will soften engine seals.
A few drops of engine oil in the brake system will stop a leaking wheel
cylinder.
Engine oil in an automatic trans will help save a transmission front or
rear
seal.
Unfortunately, I don't know what to add to 90W, but I'd bet on brake
fluid.
Don't go overboard, and you probably won't do any damage, and SOMETIMES
these
things work.
