SU Needles

Hey SU Gurus!

Here's a question for you... how are the SU needles 
properly set?  If I set according to the manuals, it seems 
like I won't be using the first station on the needle. 
  If I set per Z-Therapy's video, that seems to make 
sense, but is that before or after you set the mixture? 
  Any and all suggestions or thoughts are very much 
appreciated!
