shipping / long distance purchases

In the event a find a car I want to buy, I wonder if someone could give
me a little advice:  1) Any recommendations on a shipping co?  What is
the usual cost for a 1,000 - 1,500 mile shipment 2) How do you arrange a
purchase?  I've never bought a car "over the phone" and don't know how
to arrange it so that a deposit is legally binding on both the seller
and me, the buyer.  As you can see..lots of questions.
