The biggest problem is the axles. The differentials are generally  
fine and I note they had a second life as the centre differentials in  
Subaru WR-Xs until recently.

As you approach 200hp and increased torque you run into a design flaw  
with the standard axles. They tend to snap at a point where they  
narrow. This situation s made worse by using sticky "R-comp" tyres.  
Billet axles or ones adapted from other cars can fix the problem but  
not cheap.

So many high hp cars in Australia have snapped axles that it is  
getting impossible to find standard replacements. Local roadster  
expert Lou Mondello has a solution using shirtened axles from a local  
nissan sedan. He has to use the side gears from that cars diff for  
the correct spline. This mod also allows the use of 240Z brake drums  
as the flange is not hubcentric.
