Actually, unlike many British sports cars of old, Datsun Roadster rear bearings are not lubricated by the differential oil. Here'a link from our old Mt. Shasta Meet friend and long-time Roadster enthusiast, Tom Walter, regarding the rear bearings: http://www.nowroc.org/Techtips/RearWheelBearing.htm.

The rear wheel bearings are lubricated by the gear oil in the diff, you don't repack them like you do at the front. the issue with putting longer studs into the flange at the rear is that you have to take the backing plate off which requires removing the bearing collar (retainer). It typically has to be cut off - it's something to be avoided unless you're changing the rear axle bearings anyway...

On the otherhand "when was the last time you re-greased the wheel bearings?"
After 40-50 years it gets pretty dry.
