Doug Ross asked why Les Brooke used the tranny cover to dig his TR out of
the sand at Tertre Rouge. He used it initially because he had no other
digging equipment and he did not spot the spade sticking in the sand
several yards away for some time. The cars carried a small tool kit, so he
doubtless removed the cover with a screwdriver.
- Funny but the marshals didn't point Les towards the spade - there were
French cars in the race weren't there !!!!???? Apparently, if a French car
went into the sand anywhere at Le Mans in those days - spades seemed to
sprout out of the ground all around them like mini forests.
