The angle between the drive shaft and the pinion flange isn't that
critical by itself.  What is important is that the gearbox tailshaft
flange and diff pinion flange are close to parallel, so the angle the
driveshaft makes with each is roughly the same.  I've heard that if
they are *exactly* the same, a harmonic resonance can be generated
making for weird vibrations, thanks to the non-constant rotational
speed of the U joint.  But take that with a grain of salt.  Now,
if there were constant velocity joints on each end, it would be
different.
