Used to be that a lot of vintage organizations wouldn't allow electronic
ignition. That seems to have tailed off, so now it's inertia and laziness
keeping those dual-point Mallorys in my engines. On the bright side--I can
fix anything in them that breaks. I can diagnose a bad condenser in
minutes. A bad whazzama in a potted case is outside my abilities. The real
problem is that they don't have rev limiter capabilities, and I like a rev
limiter--I make bad decisions when I'm in second, just behind the guy in
first. I make much better decisions in the paddock.

I'll probably get off my a** and get electronics added this winter. After
I figure out why I've got a gearbox full of neutrals after last Sunday.
Something broke so I dnf'ed the last race and didn't get to run the
enduro. Car did great all weekend though--first place on Saturday, second
in the Saturday handicap race (though I got passed at the flag, the
official timing is back in the last turn). A big lead on Sunday, though
one of the Poopers was running me down. Then boom! nada. I suspect I blew
my clutch to bits.

Gentleman,
I'm a little confused about all this talk
about condensors. Not about the
condensors, but about the fact that you
guys are even using them. I had assumed
(and we know where that leads!) that an
electronic system like Petronix (or, God
forbid, Lumenition) would be the obvious
choice over points and condensor system.
Is the Mallory (dual point?) the popular
choice of champions? And what about that
MSD stuff...another hot ticket to the
winner's circle? Later I'll ask about Nology
and platimun Splitfires, but I wonder about
the best complete ignition system. I'm sure
everyone has there own opinion...and I
want to hear them all! Thanks.
