Sounds like the mechanic knows nothing about triumphs. certainly it's
possible to have a crack in the block that leaks water, but it's very
unlikely. Much more likely is a bad figure eight gasket, a head gasket, or
erosion in the head or block surface that lets water get into the oil.
What the mechanic might be seeing is cracks near the base of the head
studs in the corners of the block--they are common and weaken the stud
mounting, but they don't cause any leakage.
Ask the mechanic exactly where the cracks are. If he says "in the cylinder
bores" then clearly the problem is wrong mechanic.

I need a bit of advice. A friend's street TR3 has (his mechanic says)

hairline cracks in the block. He has been getting coolant in the oil
pan.
So, his mechanic pulled the head and replaced the head gasket and then
pressurized the cooling system and said there are two cracks in the
block.
My question is: will a sealant like Barrs Leak or something like that
seal a
block for long term?
Or, does anyone have a block for sale for a reasonable amount?
