The old TR4 factory workshop manual has a great set of instructions.
The clearances are the same as a TR6. Or the TR6 factory workshop manual. If
you have a fax number, I could send you copies but I don't think I could
scan and email them. My computer is not powered by Lucas or gas so I know
only some of the basics. Scanning is too fancy. As for the instruction that
tells you to use a case spreader, you can use two big pry screwdrivers to
leverage it out. I have done it for years that way. Turn the carrier assy.
where you can get one inside either side of the carrier assy and pry down
against the case. It will come out with ease. If you are just replacing
bearings and seals, make some method where you can measure the depth of your
pinion gear before pulling it out. After you replace the bearings, reusing
the same thickness shims, re-measure the depth. If it is not the same, then
re-shim it so that it is the same. I do this part without the front bearing
in place as it is easier to remove the pinion to re-shim, if needed. Then I
set the pinion preload. Barry
