Sunday started off rainy again, I went out in the morning session and
again tested the tires in the wet. It wasn't raining very hard, and
I could carry a fair amount of speed it seemed. The track was
drying, but someone was oiling it down at the same time so THAT made
it interesting. The BMW's I was racing with didn't seem to figure
out the oil deal as both of them spun after passing me and one spun
in my rear view mirror trying to catch back up with me. They
thoughtfully scheduled the Kastner Cup All Triumph race immediately
after lunch on Sunday. I figured that having it that early in the
weekend most of the Triumphs would still be running. They gridded
this race on "first come first served" and I was 4th to the grid
(heh, heh). I figured the California contingent would blow by me in
short order. However, during the anthems (both Canadian and USA) it
started to rain fairly heavily. This seemed to be in my favor. As I
recall, the 250K ("the prototype"), Peyote, and Lunker in his "plum
pi" (number 3.14) TR-4 were gridded ahead of me. On the start the #7
white TR-6 (Creager?) passed me and was quickly up to the 250K. A
Herald got by me in a daring pass going into the sweeping corners
between the front straight and the back straight. He dive bombed
Lunker, clipping his rear and both spun off in front of me. I was
glad to see both had moved on the next lap. Lunker came out OK, it
just hit his wheel, but the Herald retired. That left me in 4th
behind the Peyote. I was keeping up with Bill, but the rain subsided
and the track started to dry. Mordy made quick work of me and worked
on Bill for the rest of the race. I got passed by another TR-4
(forget who, maybe Jeff Quick) and ended up finishing 6th. I was
pleased with this result!

I don't have a strong recollection of the final race on
Sunday. Lunker killed his gearbox and was on the hunt for
another. They got it changed in time for Monday's DRY
racing. Monday's first race a bunch of the TR-4's decided to start
at the back and race amongst ourselves. This didn't work out very
well, as we got separated and various cars dropped out. The final
race I gridded normally and ended up in an excellent dice with a 911
and Lunker in his TR-4. Afterwards the 911 driver found us and we
had the excited debrief of a good race. That was probably the best
racing I'd had that weekend.

Unfortunately, due to the rain and my own forgetfulness I didn't get
any in-car video, and forgot to take pictures of the Triumphs
in-situ, but did get some of them during the Monday AM Triumph photo
session. The whole group made me feel welcome, plenty of Margaritas
and Beer was to be found (quite the Margarita machine!), and I was
happy I went. It was great to see the west coast contingent in
action. They sure have some fast Triumphs!
