Those are the classes that our cars ran in during the 60's and 
70's.  It stands for D Production and E Production.  SCCA breaks the 
"Production" cars down into classes based on speed potential.  The 
fastest cars are in A Production and the slowest in H 
Production.  The TR-4 was in D Production and the TR-3 was in E 
Production originally.
