I have the same setup, or did. After running a session I found the point
gaps were off due to the wearing down of the wafer riding on the cam.
Couldn't keep it timed. I removed the points plate and installed a
Pertronics Ignitor and have eliminated all problems. Timing stays where you
put it.

So ... to answer those questions asked, I recently just completed a
compression check and a leak-down test. all checked out good and numbers
are
comparable to the last check in 2009. Like I mentioned, the plugs are new
but
I will check and test the plug wires. And, for those that queried I test
for
spark/misfire by removing the plug wire at the cap one at a time.

Engine is 1500 plus .030" over and milled .100". Carb is a single 45dcoe13
Weber.

Thanks for the questions,

 Hello All,

I have a question concerning my ignition - it's a Mallory Dual Point

distributor with mechanical advance and a Crane FireBall Hi-Output Coil PS92

(?). All are in good condition and set according to my engine tune with
fresh

plugs. When testing for a misfire, pulling one plug wire at a time, I found

the following condition : if I pull the plug wire for number 1 or number 4

cylinders there is a very noticeable change in the engine's idle. If I pull

the plug wire for number 2 or number 3 cylinder there is little to no change

in the engine's idle. There is a spark there but not as big the spark at

number 1 and 4.

Serious diagnosis will be most appreciated, or at least a direction of where

to start looking.

Spitfire looking for power,

Bob T.
