Confirm whether the cam is bent or not=2E Cams can be striaghtened a good c=
am grinder should be alble to straighten it=2E Then if it is still tight, po=
lish or griind the cam journals until you have the correct clearance on each=
journal=2E You want to keep the oil clearance withing specs so you don't lo=
ose oil flow volume by excess oil bleeding out the sides of the bearings cau=
sing a pressure & volume drop at the mains and rods=2E=20

I've got a bit of cam bind in a new cam I'm installing in the GT6=2E It ap=
pears to be a combination of slight run-out (i=2Ee=2E, the cam is slightly b=
ent, 1/1000 of runout in the middle), journal size right at the factory maxi=
mum spec, and installed bearing I=2ED=2E that is at or below the factory min=
imum I=2ED=2E
It's also possible that the block is not bored perfectly straight as the bin=
ding is not consistent around the rotation, but another cam I have, with jou=
rnal diameters 5/10,000 smaller, turns freely=2E I have not checked that ca=
m for run-out=2E

Question is, is there a tool to "expand" the bearings into the block and pos=
sibly gain a bit of clearance? I'm told the factory manual for one of those=
Octagon cars calls for such a tool=2E I'm using the typical Spitfire beari=
ngs=2E
Next stop is a machine shop with a crank straightening machine to see if the=
y can use it to straighten a cam=2E
