This is the 1st part of the 2nd race.=20
The engine is 2288cc (89mm bore) with 195 real hp at 6300rpm on the engine =
dyno and a flat power curve till 6800rpm. Maybe the powercurve can be flat =
because the cylinderhead is the limiting factor : I suppose the flow is abo=
ut constant from say 6300 rpm onwards.=20
At high rpm, a lot of power is lost in vibrations and friction. My engine h=
as a bullet steel crankshaft with dummy mains and Nicasil wet liners in an =
attempt to counteract vibrations and friction losses. Changing gears is at =
6800rpm, sometimes 7000 rpm. The valve gear is suffering the most from the =
high rpm, I use 2 chain tensioners slided in each other, but an hydraulic t=
ensioner would be better.=20

My friend Karl Chandeck drove the car all the time. He was very quick : pol=
e position on a grid of 48 cars! But in the race he went off in the 1st lap=
. That was a big disappointment of course. We repaired the car for the 2nd =
race. He had to start from last position(45th). After 4 laps he was in 7th =
position. Then some bad luck came in : the spring inside one of the Weber c=
arburettors broke and hindered the trottle shaft : the trottle stayed partl=
y open and it was impossible to drive the car like that. We did 2 attempts =
to fix it. After the 1st pit stop, Karl could do some more laps and got the=
 fastest overall laptime of the race with 2'00"490. Without the accident in=
 the first race, he could have finished 1st or 2nd. It's a pity. Karl is a =
very safe driver, he very seldom has a spin.=20

Some of you may have seen this video of my car at the Hockenheimring some w=
eeks ago : it was eating MG's with ease and also all the other cars except =
for a lightweight jaguar E-type and a very fast TVR/driver with TR6 engine.=
 So 2' 6" was good for 3rd position on the grid, only half a second slower =
than the TVR. The secret? IT WAS NOT ME AT THE WHEEL!! Karl Chandeck was dr=
iving for me : not a prof racer but very fast anyway. Sadly the engine brok=
e : holed engine block and big fire. I was always faster than the MG's but =
now being 68yrs old, I got slower and slower in the last couple of years wi=
thout noticing it. I thought it was my car and I worked on it, but I remain=
ed in the midfield instead of at the front where I used to be. My car getti=
ng faster and me getting slower : the result has been a steady state. With =
68yrs one hasn't to be slow, but for me it has turned out like that. But I =
hope it is not a definite fate and Karl is learning me to be faster again. =
We'll see if I'll succeed, if not, Karl will take over the driving complete=
ly. Next race is at Zandvoort on septembre the 12th. Watch this space!=20

my engine is really nothing special.=20

Standard crank, standard valves, good ported head, good camshaft, Ford Rods=
 (I remember Tony has organized them for me), Phoenix exhaust head, 48 Webe=
rs, that=E2=80=99s all.=20

My car is handling great. With good brake pads the standard brakes do very =
fine. Cast iron drums at the rear, Swaybars at front and rear.=20

There you have it. From last to win (okay=E2=80=A6.I was sat back to 4 th b=
ecause I accidently overtook under yellow)=20

Yep, MGs are lighter and I think they have a tiny advantage on tight corner=

But Triumphs do better from my experience.=20

My TR4 with 88mm bore is doing quite well and is on most cases faster than =
a MG.=20

I see the same thing here with good Mg's quicker than the TR-4 cars. EXCEPT=
 we have a couple TR-4's that are better prepared with the engine (bigger) =
and they are much better than the M.G.'s. I also think the MG's are a lot l=
ighter in weight for all seem very quick out of a corner. I also think that=
 the MG engine is a lot better design to start with than thee TR-4 engine. =
Way back in years I built MG engines and they were excellent in using high =
revs and very reliable.=20


Never be beaten by equipment.=20

Here in Europe MGs are in the 160Hp range, while TR 4s are about 175-190 Hp=

o all the other cars except for a lightweight jaguar E-type and a very fast=
 TVR/driver with TR6 engine. So 2' 6" was good for 3rd position on the grid=
, only half a second slower than the TVR. The secret? IT WAS NOT ME AT THE =
WHEEL!! Karl Chandeck was driving for me : not a prof racer but very fast a=
nyway. Sadly the engine broke : holed engine block and big fire. I was alwa=
ys faster than the MG's but now being 68yrs old, I got slower and slower in=
 the last couple of years without noticing it. I thought it was my car and =
I worked on it, but I remained in the midfield instead of at the front&nbsp=
; where I used to be. My car getting faster and me getting slower : the res=
ult has been a steady state. With 68yrs one hasn't to be slow, but for me i=
t has turned out like that. But I hope it is not a definite fate and Karl i=
s learning me to be faster again. We'll see if I'll succeed, if not, Karl w=
ill take over the driving completely. Next race is at Zandvoort on septembr=
