Amici, my TR3 engine seized at Lime Rock back in June. =C2=A0Finally got ar=
ound to pulling the engine and tearing it down. =C2=A0Found a broken timing=
chain along with pieces of the tensioner and that the retaining pin for th=
e tensioner was broken off of the front plate. =C2=A0The chain had many lap=
s on it - I probably should just change it with each refresh, rather than r=
eusing it.
Any suggestions on better chains and tensioners? =C2=A0I see that Moss sell=
s an "uprated" chain for about $70 compared to under $15 for other chains. =
=C2=A0It's worth the $70 if it lasts, but is it really better?
Also need an adjustable cam gear. =C2=A0I had been using one from Cambridge=
Motorsports that I had for many years. =C2=A0Any suggestions?
I have found broken tensioners in previous tear downs, but they were caught=
before causing anything worse. =C2=A0Does anyone sell or fabricate and upr=
ated tensioner similar to what MGs use? =C2=A0I see that Racetorations make=
s one for TR5/6s. =C2=A0
