I know it sure doesn't apply to EVERY car, but....

On most new cars, there is a speed sensor built in. For instance, on all
GMs it's there and on most of them, it is a 4000 pulse per mile signal (0V
low, 5V peak). The signal is pretty durable too, used to drive all kinds
of inputs (on my 96 Impala SS it is used at the factory radio for a "Speed
Compensated Volume" feature).

Wondering if having this signal (or something similar) available on a decent
chunk of your market would change things?

As for the GPS end of things : Garmin now makes an Etrex model that costs
all of $140 for the unit AND the serial cable to interface with a laptop,
Palm, etc. I have one, works like a champ with my laptop and mapping
software. It could be a fairly "low cost" way of adding GPS to something
like Geez.
