Ah, yes...undercoating.  When I bought my BJ8 4+ years ago, the wheel wells
had been undercoated.  I never liked the looks of it and removed the 
undercoating
from the front and painted.  Looked great!  This spring I started removing 
the stuff
from the rear wheel wells and found out why some PO had undercoated: rust, tin
worm, lots of the "usual Healey rust".  The gusset on the left side was 
rusted loose
and the rocker extension into the right wheel well was actually missing, 
with a big
wad of steel wool stuffed into the hole -- all this covered with 
undercoat.  Of course,
the lower panels were all well ventilated... drains better that way, I guess.

I will never again buy a Healey that has been undercoated.  Perhaps 
something to
consider before covering up perfectly good metal with undercoat...

I just had the rust repaired, and it wasn't cheap -- but, it sure looks good.
