Hope to get some info from trans wizards out there.
67 BJ8 popping out of second gear going downhill. Otherwise smooth shifting
system.
Conventional wisdom techs told me popping out of second NOT good for trans
and needs fixing.
Got new fist gear assembly from Moss which comes from Dennis Welch.\
Instructions say "if used in a bj8 the hub locking pin should be transfered
from the old unit or new purchased".
Since there was no "old" pin, my mechanic bought a new one from Moss.

I drove home and shifting was VERY stiff, rough, from 1st to second, pretty
smooth to third and fourth and down again.
Every 5th shift from first it was nearly impossible to get it out of first.
Mechanic says it is definately NOT the synchro.
With engine off it was very difficult to get out of first unless you rock
forward slightly with engine on. This was not a problem before the new first
gear assembly was installed.
Drove it today and it was OK with mechanic (naturally) then I drove down his
driveway and it just hung in first. I walked back and even he couldn't get
it out without engaging the clutch and rolling forward slightly.
This can't be normal and he's going to drop the trans again and remove the
"pin".
Any suggestions, especially about the "pin" that I didn't have and DW wants
you to put in?
Any help greatly appreciated!
Ron
