What did that A35 have in it? That thing was really hauling around the track,
being chased by the MK1 Jag. I was holding my breath for fear that they would
wad them up. Funny how watching those cars really getting into it can be as
exciting, or more so, than watching F1 cars running more than twice as fast.

On a more somber note (please delete if offended) - "lest we forget" - I was
also watching some coverage of the 60th anniversary of the allied liberation of
Auswitch. I could hardly stand to watch it, it was just so horrific to see and
contemplate. I would actually switch the channel over to Speed for a while
cause I couldn't take it. Then I would switch back. Part of the coverage was
of Josef Mengela "the angel of death" and interviews with some of the survivors
of Auswitch, who were kids when they were there. He was such a monster that he
would experiment on kids - twins especially. They showed long lines of kids
being marched into the camp. Very difficult to take, and especially for me
considering I have a 3 year old. I had a hard time comprehending that such
things could actually happen, and that people would stand by and allow them to
happen. You can watch that stuff over and over and never get used to what you
see. I can't even imagine what it must have been like for the allied troops
who first came upon the death camps.
I was in a little insurance shop a few years ago getting motorcycle insurance.
It was summer and the owner was an older gent - Jewish. He had a short sleeve
shirt on and I noticed a string of faded numbers tattooed on his left forearm.
Startled me. I tried not to stare. I wondered what he thought about, what he
remembered, or if he just tried to forget.

Last night was a "preview" to show the cars coming up for bid. Lots of
interesting customs and hot rods by guys like Coddington and Foose. Lots of
muscle cars, too. Actual bidding starts tonight at 7:00 p.m EST on SpeedTV.
They'll have 24 hours of coverage through Sunday. Go to www.speedtv.com for
the schedule. More entertaining than last night's B-J coverage was the
Goodwood Revival show that followed. Watching a diminutive A35 trounce huge
Jaguar S sedans and an Alvis was worth the price of admission.

Happy Healeying,
Rick
