I have seen only a few hardtops for the 100-4. Wisdom tells us that fitting
a hardtop to a hand built car can be difficult. Mal Doherty built a few hard
tops for the 100-4 and discovered this fact. His hard top is personally
built and by way of qualifications, his car wins many shows.

So, to address your question. A strategy I have seen applied to hot-rods
applies.

A good custom top shop can build a frame, like the soft top frame, apply a
sheet metal covering and then canvas or vinyl fabric over it. The results
are a top that looks like the original soft top and behaves like a hard top.

I have never seen this done, but hold it as a solution to what you describe.

Subject: Healey Hundred Hardtop

Hi folks,

I'm interested in the Big Healey UK hardtop for my BN2. When I asked
David Ward for detailed pics of the top on a Hundred he suggested that I
go to the NC Conclave in June to look at it, as Nick Freeman would have
one there. The pics on their web site give me very little clue as to the
actual top proportions, anchoring, or internal finish.

My health is not that good to travel 4000 miles round trip, although I
would love to.

Does anyone have some detailed pics of this Hundred top that they could
email to me? I'm particularly interested in the rear window size & shape
& how far the top extends back on the rear shroud. I've seen some that
seem to terminate right aft of the cockpit opening. I'm looking for
something that extends back to the soft top anchors.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave Russell
BN2
