Gary,
The threaded hose nipples are separate and screw into the hexagonal bosses
you see. The bosses provide something for your wrench to hold on to.

Silly question, perhaps, but when I look at the pic of the Facet, I notice
that the intake and outlet pipes are hexagonal -- How does one fasten the
pump into the fuel system?
