A few days ago I posted a tire sizes table based on manufacturers' size
designations. The size designations depart from actual in various ways
between bias ply and radial eras and among manufacturers. The table below is
based on actual dimensions provided by manufacturers and retailers.

 

This exercise leads me to conclude that large diameter (25 inch plus) street
DOT approved tires for 15 inch wheels are becoming uncommon. In a year or so
we may be limited to "Vintage Car" tires appropriate for concours and Healey
convocations. These tires do not take advantage of new tire technology and
are costly. They are not necessarily the best for daily drivers. The Healey
daily drivers might need to go to 16 inch wheels. Perhaps we should develop
our 16 inch wheel alternatives.
