Dear Michael,

Thank you for the tip. I will definitely remove the carburetors and work on
them. Do the usual sources have the jet and diaphragm included in their
rebuild kits or are they available separately. I need to order something on
Monday, so that I can have the parts ready to install Memorial Day weekend.

I appreciate this list so much. It is so wonderful to share the knowledge
of our Healey's with those who know so much and are willing to share.

Hi Mark,
The problem that you are describing is almost invariably attributable to a
cracked jet diaphragm. With most jets the diaphragm is part of the jet
assembly although some aftermarket jets had replaceable diaphragms.
The jet and diaphragm assembly can be replaced with the carburetor in place,
but it is quite difficult and I would certainly recommend removing the
carburetors to do the job properly.
I have found that some of the materials used for the jet diaphragms are
damaged by fuels with methanol content.

I finally have a technical question. I have a leak in my front HD8 and gas
comes from the bottom of the carburetor. I have taken off the float cover
to see if the needle valve is defective and it is fine. The gas was drained
out of the bowl. I checked for loose screws on the bottom of the carb, but
they were tight. I am out of town, and will not be back until late Friday
night. I am planning to remove both carburetors and rebuild them. Should I
purchase a full rebuild kit or only the gasket kit and who should I get them
from, as the prices vary greatly.

Thanks,

Mark Goodman
