Windscreen Wiper Question

Hi All, Here's a funny little question I'd like some feedback on:  Is
there a difference in the length of cable tube from the wiper motor to
the first wheelbox between BJ7-8 and earlier cars??  I came across this
while trying to put pieces from a box of old misc. wiper parts on a BN7
Mk1.  The tube between the wheelboxes is correct but the first piece
seems about an inch too long.....or maybe I'm just crazy....  Seem like
I oughta be able to shorten it and flare the end but I just wanted to
check.  Many Thanks!!
