fuel gauge sending unit lead

Listers,

A question on the routing of the lead for the sending unit - does it go through 
the grommet/hole in the rear bulkhead for the rear harness or does it go 
through 
the smaller hole just inboard of the first hole?  Then, what is its path to the 
sending unit?  Run along the back of the tank or along side?
