In light of this latest thread, I have just had the brushes replaced in
my BJ8 generator and when putting the new fan belt on, I noticed the
pulley was 3/8" on the generator while 1/2 inch on the water pump and
crank. I asked the repair shop about this and was advised that a 1/2"
belt would work just fine (I was told the larger belt would ride high in
the pulley but make good contact to the sides, a smaller belt would slip
as it wouldn't touch the sides of the pulley) I'm not totally sold but
it got me back from Conclave. Is it necessary to replace the pulley?

David:

Were there not 2 pulleys used on the late (BJ8) generator - both a 3/8"
and
then the 1/2"? What I'm getting at is I believe that there were two
3/8"
pulleys, one with the correct hole size for the BJ8 generator - so if
Rick
had the later 3/8" pulley, it should do what he wants it to.

No, the inside diameter is different.
