I dont know if you can get it in the US but Miller Oils are highly respected
in the Uk and concentrate on older vintage and classic motor lubricants. They
make oils to VW and merc specs as well as others.

They recommend a classic mineral oil 20w50 see:

and discuss zddp camshaft wear problems for cars and bikes on (unfortunately
just says it contains the optimum amount of zddp!), it does explain the
reduced use of ash so as not to affect the modern emission system:

there shock and steering box oils are also recommended
