worn insulation on tiny wire to advance plate in distributor 

ignition switch failure

circlip lost from shaft of battery ground switch

broken center contact in distributor

fuel pump points seized

(this over a period of ten years and 20,000 miles of driving)

Witnessed/participated in

broken rotors

loose knock-off nut

blown oil pressure line to safety gauge

sunk floats

out of gas/bad gas gauge

loose wheel hub nuts

point failure in regulator/battery discharged
