Hi Ted & Les,
You need to determine if the failure to disengage is caused by the
overdrive's hydraulic system retaining pressure or if the problem is
mechanical. 
The easiest way is to, remove the gearbox tunnel, get the rear wheels off
the ground, "drive" the car until the "locked in overdrive" condition is
achieved (engine stopped), then remove the operating valve plug to see if
there is residual oil pressure. If, once the pressure is relieved the
overdrive becomes disengaged the most likely problem is the "bleed off" hole
in the side of the operating valve.
