Hi Charlie!!!

<<Does anyone have any experience with using inexpensive ($100 or less)
hand held two-way radios to communicate between lead and sweep cars to
help keep groups together?>>

Only ever used the 'real' thing or CB<G>!! But, read on.

<<Do they work OK?>>

TOTALLY depends on prevailing 'conditions'.
By definition (and licensing), they are VERY low power, so IN THERORY
they only work in a "line of sight" situation, i.e. tip of antennae to tip
of antennae<G>!! BUT, in most cases the foregoing is actually not true<G>!!
They DO (no matter what the conditions) have limited range. If you are
hoping to get a 10 - 12 mile distance then mountain-top-to-mountain-top
is a qualified maybe<G>!!

<<Any recommendations on brands or models?>>

Motorola or Kenwood.

I am adding Mark Endicott (not sure if he is still here since he sold his
BIG Healey - still has Frogeye<G>) as he is more "current product"
knowledgeable !! Mark, you can send your comments to me and I will
forward to Healeys List.
