Actually there is a little more to this story than is commonly known.
Some years ago Steve Pike and I ran into Goerge Henke a long time BN1 owner
from Napa CA and he showed us a photograph that he took in the back yard of
The Cape works in 1954-5 which showed the stripped out body shell of
Shelby's very bent Healey upside down in their scrap heap. The big AUSTIN
lettering was still very clear on the right rear fender with Pan America
visible above it so it is pretty well confirmed that the car returned to
England and was disassembled there.
